It's been a while since I last posted anything, but I'm trying to get in gear again. Here's a picture of our sweet Davis. He's a big 4 years of age now. He keeps telling us he is a "Big Boy". He doesn't like to be referred to as a little boy. He has grown so much since we brought him home. He is doing so well with his speech therapy and hopfully will be in school this year. We are just waiting for the grant to go through for the school. Here in Virginia so many teachers have been laid off that some of the classes have been cancelled due to lack of money, (so much for whoever keeps tabs on the budgets) so the class that Davis would go into is also taught by a wonderful teacher that teaches kindergarten plus the few children like Davis, that are in need of skipping the pre-K class and they go into kindergarten. So we are just waiting for the final word. Hope everyone is doing great! Love to all

IN MEMORIAM - BLAZIN GENERAL 1981-2009

My wonderful "Brownie", or "Brown Man" as he was fondly known, passed away on Saturday January 17, 2009. He was Quarter Horse Thoroughbred cross, or as they call them in the horse world an Appendix. The vet had just been out a few days before and we kind of knew that this might be his last winter if he could go that long. Saturday he laid down in the pasture near his buddy "Scarlet", and never was able to get up. His body just too weak to go on. The vet came out with her husband, and David and I tried to get the old guy up to no avail. I had to make that terrible decision to let him go. So the doctor gave him his last two shots and he went peaceful. I was so glad that I got to be there with him, to stroke his head and neck and give him those long goodbye kisses on his muzzle. To those of you who have never had horses, you will probably never understand the relationship between rider and horse. There is an old saying that in a Cowboys lifetime he will have one good horse and one good dog. Will this Cowgirl has been lucky enough to have had both. Brownie never had any thing wrong with him a day in his life. He never had colic or any foot problems. That in itself is very unusual in a horse his age of 28. Most aren't lucky enough to live that long.

He was very bossy to Scarlet. We always had to laugh at him telling her where "they" were going to graze in the pastures. She always relently went along with his daily programs. They were great buddies. It was so sad to see her watch over him all night Saturday. She just stood vigil over him. I think I cried more over that. It was so sad. The vet told us she would understand that he was gone, and she would know what had happened. In the wild, when a horse dies they emit an odor so that the herd knows they are dead, so the herd can move on. Amazing. She is still greaving for him, and I hope that passes soon. She is now nickering to me and she has never done that before. Only Brownie did that.

David and my Stepfather John, buried Brownie here on our farm next to a place that I plan to have a flower garden this coming Spring. This horse meant so much to me, he was a family member, a friend, and I'm glad he will still be close to me.

June 16, 2008 - Davis And The Potty

I'm so glad to say after much work with Davis, he has had dry diapers and loves to use his new potty chair. It plays music when he goes to the bathroom. Who thinks up this stuff? But it works. It's been funny because he doesn't talk yet, (little bit of a language barrier) but he knows what we mean. He is wearing his new pull up pants with pride. We haven't had to use any reward type of things to get him to use the potty. Thank goodness. Hopefully this will continue as I really got tired of changing diapers. He will be 2 on the 19th of this month. Hard to believe. He is such a joy and good little boy. I hope that will always be the case. We've had him now for 2 months, seems like last week we were in China. Boy, time flies doesn't it. Or maybe it's our age. After 30, everything goes by fast. It looks like Davis will try to keep us young. Now let's hope the diapers are over!

Meanwhile, Back At The Ranch - May 15, 2008

Sorry it took so long to get this post up and going. The pictures wouldn't work correctly and I thought I would never get it to work.

It's hard to believe that next month June 19, Davis will be 2 years old. Seems like he has always been with us. He is such a good little boy and good natured. He just goes along with the program every day. It is such a blessing that to have a first child we got him. If he was a handful I don't know what we would do being first time parents. Now, that may change as he gets older, hope not. I have included some pictures below of his first kite flying experience. He was having a time holding on to the wheel of the kite. Almost pulled him over. It was quite funny. But it was such a pretty day on the farm. The horses were running like crazy as they were not to sure of the kites flying over their heads. Brownie didn't like it one bit. The kites make a flapping noise. But they aren't afraid of low flying loud planes, they don't even look up. Go figure.

Then there are the pictures of Davis opening up his Christmas gifts. Finally. We didn't think it would have taken so long for Davis to get here. Now the tree can go back up to the attic. Yea!

Thanks for checking in an following along. We will make every effort to keep everyone posted on how things are going, and any new adventures. This summer will be fun to see how Davis will react to the beach, the Children's Museum, Zoo, and so many other things he will do for the first time. I haven't been checking my personal emails too closely so I will get back to you as soon as I can. Davis takes up a lot of my time these days, but it's a good thing.
